Recibi\u00f3 su doctorado (PhD) y magister (MS) en Ingenier\u00eda El\u00e9ctrica y Computaci\u00f3n en Purdue University, EEUU, y el t\u00edtulo de Ingeniero Civil en Sonido y Ac\u00fastica de la Universidad Vicente P\u00e9rez Rosales, Chile. Su investigaci\u00f3n se centra en el desarrollo de herramientas de procesamiento digital de se\u00f1ales, t\u00e9cnicas de sensado, y modelamiento matem\u00e1tico, todos enfocados en ac\u00fastica biom\u00e9dica. Su trabajo m\u00e1s reciente le ha permitido explorar diversos efectos no lineales en la voz humana y la aplicaci\u00f3n de modelos matem\u00e1ticos para el diagn\u00f3stico m\u00e9dico de enfermedades de la voz, lo cual ha sido financiado en Chile por CONICYT, y en EEUU por NSF y NIH. El Dr. Za\u00f1artu ha recibido diversos honores, incluyendo becas Fulbright e IIE, premio de excelencia acad\u00e9mica de Qualcomm, y mejor trabajo en el congreso ASA 2009, y cuenta con m\u00e1s de 25 publicaciones ISI, 60 presentaciones en conferencias internacionales y tres patentes en EEUU.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/profesores.elo.utfsm.cl\/~mzanartu\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">http:\/\/profesores.elo.utfsm.cl\/~mzanartu<\/a><\/p>\n<h2><strong>[info]\u00a0La charla \u00a0fue transmitida por <a href=\"http:\/\/videoteca.uach.cl\/videos\/video\/2199\/\">http:\/\/videoteca.uach.cl\/videos\/video\/2199\/<\/a>.[\/info]<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><iframe style=\"border: 0px; padding: 0px; margin: 0px;\" src=\"http:\/\/videoteca.uach.cl\/videos\/video\/2199\/embed\/?access_token=shr00000021992381845238455238200089453073843\" width=\"562\" height=\"343\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><strong>Biomedical Acoustics: Understanding human speech production using numerical modeling and other engineering tools<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Early studies in telecommunications regarding human speech were aimed at compressing the speech signal, creating mechanisms for automatic speech recognition, and improving its noise robustness. Current scientific efforts worldwide are focused on obtaining additional information that is hidden but embedded in the speech signal, such as emotional states, depression, underlying vocal pathologies, etc. In this presentation, a numerical model of the complete human speech production apparatus is used to investigate patterns of vocal abuse that are thought to be associated with many of the most common voice disorders, such as nodules and polyps. Many subjects are known to incorrectly position their larynx and vocal folds, which is herein shown to produce a significant reduction of the energy transfer from the fluid to the vocal folds and the resulting radiated sound pressure level. The numerical model is then used to explore how a compensatory increase in lung air pressure to regain vocal loudness while maintaining a deficient vocal fold posture, can lead to overly high collision forces between the vocal folds. Abnormally high subglottal pressure and collision forces have been observed in previous clinical studies for patients with nodules and polyps.
